Estimating
RCI is a recognized innovator in the area of systems and software cost estimations. As a member of the University of Southern California (USC) team, RCI is helping to define, refine, calibrate and deploy new estimating models and tools worldwide. Specific efforts we are contributing to include:
COCOMO II
- The next generation software estimating tool. The current COCOMO II.2000 model uses a database of over 161 past projects to predict future costs using a Baysian calibration approach. We are helping to analyze more data and develop a new calibration for the model.
COCOTS
- This new model predicts the costs of using COTS software packages in development and soon during maintenance.
COSYSMO
- This parametric model estimates costs and schedules for systems engineering tasks using results jointly developed with INCOSE. We are assisting with its continued development.
In addition to providing leadership at USC, RCI offers the following estimating products and services:
Benchmarking/Calibration
- RCI offers a variety of benchmarking services aimed at determining performance relative to "best in class" competitors. We can also help clients calibrate the COCOMO II model to improve its estimating accuracy.
Consulting
- RCI generates independent estimates to serve as benchmarks for validating reasonableness of estimates. As noted under the products tab, we offer a benchmarking service the us with basis for this analysis.
Training
- RCI offers two and three day hands-on workshops on the topics of estimating and the use of COCOMO II model. To view a course perspectus, click on COCOMO Workshop
